AIR CELEIA - International Curatorial Residency 2012

Call for Applications

The Center for Contemporary Arts Celje, Slovenia is the central institution in the Savinjska region involved in the research, presentation, development and promotion of local, national and international contemporary visual art. It includes three exhibition spaces (the Gallery of Contemporary Art, the Likovni salon Gallery and the Racka Gallery) and carries out an educational programme, reaching out with its activities in the regional framework, while at the same time functioning as a place of local and international artistic events. The Center maintains contacts with the international community through its residency programme AIR CELEIA, which has been active since 2005 and is dedicated to both artists and curators. The AIR CELEIA programme is conceived on the basis of a reciprocal model that enables the residential artist / curator to become acquainted with, get in contact with, exchange experiences with and get involved in the local artistic community, at the same time offering local artists the possibility of establishing new connections and forms of collaboration, or of a potential presentation of themselves and their work internationally.

The Center for Contemporary Arts announces an open call for collaboration in the AIR CELEIA 2012 programme, which will enable the selected curator to carry out an in-depth research of the visual art produced in Slovenia and to prepare a curatorial project that will be realized in the Likovni salon Gallery in 2013. During her/his two-month residential stay, the selected curator will be expected to prepare a concept for the curatorial project which must include Slovenian artists (dual presentation of Slovenian and foreign artists). The Center for Contemporary Arts will arrange for the curator to connect with the city, to become well acquainted with the local artistic community and will offer all the necessary support in the realization of the curatorial project. The selected curator will be offered a two-month stay in a residential flat, a grant of € 600 and a royalty payment of €1000 after the realization of the curatorial project. The travel costs are not covered. Interested candidates are invited to apply by 1 May 2012.
