Open Set Lab: Memories of the Future Programme
Hilversum, Den Bosch, the Netherlands, 8 September 2017 - 27 January 2018
Open Set is an independent education platform that promotes the social relevance of design and visual culture. Designed to enrich an active studio practice or ongoing education, its programmes are aimed at makers and thinkers who seek a deeper understanding of emergent discourses, and those who want to take their work in new, unexpected directions. The organization announces the Open Set Lab, a new research programme on the intersection between design, film, art and the humanities, to take place between 8 September 2017 and 27 January 2018.
The programme consists of three interconnected thematic trajectories:
- Mutation of the nature, meaning and practice of archives in the digital era;
- Visual strategies in audio-visual documents: the codified construction of events or facts;
- Algorithmic nature of contemporary data archives.
The Lab is aimed at international designers, media artists, filmmakers, journalists, archivists and researchers, and offers participants flexibility through an innovative hybrid learning environment in both the online and physical realms, with dual headquarters at the Dutch Institute for Sound and Vision and the Master Institute at AKV St. Joost. The five-month programme concludes with a public conference where participants can present their results.
The deadline for applications is 26 June 2017.
