Under the title Television in 36 European States, the European Audiovisual Observatory (EAO) and the Council of Europe have published the first of three volumes of EAO's trilingual Yearbook 2006: Film, Television and Video in Europe, offering individual country profiles, including fact sheets with all basic figures as well as syntheses of recent trends in the audiovisual sector. The current publication draws a complete picture of the national television landscapes of the Observatory's 36 member States (including the financial situation of television companies, audience market shares and a breakdown of the leading channels' programme output by genre), while the second volume will summarise developments in the European television sector, and the third one will continue to focus on cinema and video. The latter two volumes are expected to appear in the coming months.
