Culture, the Soul of Democracy
Council of Europe, Strasbourg, 2007, 18 pp.
The Directorate of Culture, Cultural and Natural Heritage has recently published a new brochure in English and in French, briefly presenting its aims and its work which directly reflects the fundamental values and priorities of the Council of Europe. The publication particularly shows how culture is a force of democracy in European societies, highlighting the practice of and respect for human rights. Placing culture at the heart of society to foster dialogue, cohesion and citizenship, the Directorate gives prominence to heritage, pursues cultural diversity and biodiversity policies, promotes a better cultural governance and openness to others, and offers assistance, evaluation and cooperation.
The publication is available online at www.coe.int/T/DG4/cultureHeritage/Source/About/Culture_soul_EN.pdf
A new Directorate web site is also in the making.
