Albanian National Trust
The Albanian National Trust is organizing a Regional Youth Summer Camp to work in preserving and restoring an old Sufi Monastery in southern Albania, taking place in Gyirokastra from June to August 2006. Run in cooperation with the Swedish Cultural Heritage without Borders, Mjaft Foundation, Gjirokastra Town Hall, National Galery and Bektashi Order, the project contains two essential components: the restoration of a cultural and religious monument with proven historical value and the training of young people from the Balkans in democratization and reconciliation. The camp gathers some 40 students and graduates from the region to attend a series of leadership and ethnic reconciliation sessions of structured workshops and dialogues, while participating hands-on in the reconstruction of this important historical site.
Other activities of the Albanian National Trust include the founding of the Butrint National Park, a well-preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site, the organization of the First International Ancient Drama Festival in Butrint, and the establishment of anthropology schools and underwater archaeological expeditions.
