Giovanni Agnelli Research Scholarship in the Economics of Contemporary Art
UniCredit Private Banking and the Giovanni Agnelli Foundation announce the fourth edition (2007) of the Giovanni Agnelli Research Scholarship in the Economics of Contemporary Art, awarded in memory of Giovanni Agnelli and his lifelong love for contemporary art. It aims at promoting and funding original research works by young scholars from all European Union countries on subjects concerning the economics, organization and markets of contemporary arts. Applications for the 2007 edition will be considered for original research projects in the following topical subject:
- Collecting contemporarily. How contemporary art collections are formed.
- Corporate mission, passion and investment as art purchasing motives for museums, cultural institutions, cities, enterprises, and private collectors.
Candidate projects must fall in the field of social sciences, with a focus on the economics and sociology of the arts. The topic provides candidates with a wide degree of choice, ranging from more theoretical approaches to empirical research on how contemporary art collecting interacts with the art market and creates fashions and trends. Comparative approaches, national or transnational, addressing how purchasing strategies may vary among players belonging to the same or to different classes of contemporary art collectors will be also welcome. The research project as well as the final research work must be in English or Italian.
The winning project will be awarded € 12.000. It will be implemented and developed within 12 months from the granting of the scholarship. A further assignment of € 3.000 for the publication of the research work is at the discretion of the Scientific Board.
Application deadline is 7 January 2008. Candidate scholars must be EU citizens under 32 years of age. Multi-authored projects are accepted (no more than 3 authors). All applicants are required to submit a detailed curriculum vitae et studiorum.
