Master's Programme in Cultural Policy

The Master's Degree Programme in Cultural Policy of the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland, is designed to prepare graduates to take on various leading roles in national and international organizations in the field of cultural policy. Graduates from the programme will be able to work in culture related organizations, art and cultural institutions, research centres, media, and higher education. The programme is aimed at students who have obtained a Bachelor's Degree (180 ECTS) in social and political sciences, public administration and management, philosophy, or equivalent.
The programme will enable graduates to apply scientific knowledge and methodology in critically evaluating culture and cultural policy. The education leads to a master's degree in social sciences (MSocSc). The curriculum (min. 120 ECTS) scrutinizes cultural policy actors, instruments and impacts; access and participation; cultural economy and creative industries; cultural diversity and citizenship; relationship between art and technology; and geography and cultural policy. It is comprised of methodological and theoretical studies in the student's major subject (as above), Advanced Studies in Cultural Policy and a Master's Dissertation. Graduates will get the right to apply for Doctoral studies.
Completion of the programme will take two years of full-time study. The teachers and supervisors are nationally and internationally recognized experts in their respective areas. The deadline for studies beginning in the fall of 2012 is 3 April 2012.
