Artists Residency in Chile and Austria
Call for Application
Under the aegis of the European Digital Art and Science Network, the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and Ars Electronica are offering artists the opportunity to spend a stay of several weeks at the ESO in Chile as well as at the Ars Electronica Futurelab in Linz, Austria. This call for applications is addressed to artists working in digital media art who are keen to engage in close-up encounters with the ESO's methods and technologies, and to draw scientific-artistic inspiration from this amazing experience. The first part of the residency is a stay at the European Southern Observatory in Chile. The artist will first go through a general orientation at the ESO's headquarters in Santiago, and then he/she will be requested to select at which of ESO's four locations he/she would like to spend the residency: ALMA, La Silla, Paranal or APEX. The site of the second part of the residency will be the Ars Electronica Futurelab in Linz, Austria. The results of the residency will be showcased at the 2016 Ars Electronica Festival and in modular touring exhibitions appearing at the seven cultural institutions that are members of the European Digital Art and Science Network.
An international jury made up of representatives of Ars Electronica, ESO and the seven cultural institutions in the Network will jointly select the residency recipient. Artists have until 10 January 2016 to submit applications to www.aec.at/artandscience/.
