Call for International Co-productions

International co-productions epitomize a form of artistic collaboration involving partnership and dialogue. With a view to encouraging new collaborative working processes and innovative productions involving international cultural exchange, the Goethe-Institut has set up a new coproduction fund to promote new working networks and approaches within a global context, and to explore new forms of intercultural collaboration. The International Coproduction Fund is intended for co-productions by artists in the fields of theatre, dance, music and performance art, in which hybrid and interdisciplinary formats and the use of digital media may be key components. The target group comprises professional artists, ensembles and initiatives in Germany and abroad which demonstrably lack sufficient resources to realize their coproduction project on their own.

The application, which must be jointly submitted by the foreign partner, must show that good working contacts already exist and both parties are interested in putting together a joint production.

The Goethe-Institut is primarily interested in funding projects that are likely to be of high artistic calibre and to have considerable public impact. The results of the collaborative efforts are to be presented in a professional setting in at least one country, though ideally both in Germany and abroad. The requested funds, which are not to exceed EUR25,000, should be used only as a secondary source of funding, mainly to help cover travel expenses.

Preference will be given to projects between German and non-European partners, particularly from transition countries. Funding may be requested only for projects to be developed between 2016 and 2018.

The deadlines for the receipt of applications are: 15 July 2016 for 2016, between 30 October 2016 and 30 April 2017 for 2017, and between 30 October 2017 and 30 April 2018 for 2018.
