The Multi-faceted Curator
CD-ROM, Goethe-Institut Jakarta and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), 2006
The Goethe-Institut Jakarta and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) have published a digital post-event publication, consisting of a DVD and a CD-ROM, containing both a short and long version of the edited film material shot during a March 2006 workshop on curatorial practices held in Jakarta and Bandung, Indonesia, as well as assessments by the participants and feedback on the workshop, a press review, introductions to follow-up projects and photo-documentation.
In three days of meetings organized around case studies of curatorial practices involving cultural exchange, practical workshops and visits to art institutions and spaces, 28 curators from 10 European and 9 Asian countries compared their professional curatorial profiles developed in a variety of historical, socio-political and cultural environments.
The main aim of the workshop was to provide insight into the Asian and European contemporary art scene from a curatorial perspective and to discuss the idea and potential implementation of new formats of curatorial cooperation between Asia and Europe. The event opened the path for more network opportunities and sharing of experiences among the curators and served as a launch pad for future projects to be developped within the framework of new curatorial strategies between Europe and Asia.
