This book does not concern itself with artworks already made, but rather with "artworks to be done". Its purpose is the metamorphosis of creative work driven by an innovative support and artistic mediation: the "New Patrons" (Nouveaux Commanditaires) action designed by the artist François Hers and implemented by the Fondation de France since 1991.
'Creating a work' and 'creating society' are rendered inseparable. Neither the work, nor the common, affairs of the arts or the citizen, are already given. One as well as the other demand to be created. But, this creation of a 'common work' is underlined by a long series of associations, intrigues, controversies and dynamic negotiations between artists, mediators, and the patron citizens.
