Curtain Up! Learning on European Stages: A Manual on Program Management
Practical Notes from the Robert Bosch Stiftung's Programs for Cultural Managers, Robert Bosch Stiftung, Stuttgart, 2012, 80 pp.
Since 2002, the Robert Bosch Stiftung has been promoting cultural exchange in Europe by sending selected fellows to cultural institutions abroad. The programmes aim to foster cooperation structures and intercultural competence of cultural producers throughout Europe. To date, approximately 180 persons have been granted support through the programmes. More than 100 cultural organizations in Europe have hosted Robert Bosch Cultural Managers and participated in the programme as the foundations' partners.
What does a funding programme for individuals involve? What special considerations and requirements does managing such a programme entail? The manual Curtain Up! Learning on European Stages compiles the experiences from ten eventful years of managing two international qualification programmes in the cultural field, with the goal of making this knowledge available to colleagues and making the experiences accessible in fields beyond the scope of these specific programmes. The manual is not a conclusive "instruction manual." Rather, it should stimulate discussion and is primarily intended for other foundations and other funding institutions. It focuses on the programme management's perspective.
